Sustaining Environmental Governance: An assessment of Participatory Planning Tools, Processes and Impacts in Rural Landscapes
Project Status: Completed
Type of Project: Networking Award
Principal Investigator: Dr Anna Lawrence, Oxford University
(Email)
Objectives
This award will prepare a full proposal that assesses the usefulness and impact of participatory rural planning processes, with a specific focus on the role of visualisation tools, to enhance rural governance.
It will do this by addressing research questions which include:
• Which participatory tools enable stakeholders to arrive at consensus
and why?
• Specifically, how effective are existing and new planning and
management tools?
• Are decisions reached by participatory methods more socially,
environmentally and economically sustainable than top-down decisions,
and why?
• How can these outcomes be perceived, measured and communicated?
